Origin of Row control

In 1989, I purchased a new John Deere 7300, 8 row vacuum planter. At that time, the only thing available for controlling double planting was Seed Stop. I purchased a unit for my planter, optimistic about the possibilities of the savings in seed purchases.

Upon installation and use of this system, I was disappointed to find it did not provide the level of control that I wanted. I knew I was still able to cap off the unwanted rows during planting using the rubber stoppers, but was not happy about the prospect of exiting my tractor cab in every cut of land.

I decided to work on something that I knew would eliminate these problems. My father-in-Law and I worked together to design an efficient system for row control. I have now tested this system for 2 planting seasons with absolutely no problems. This system is as close to 100% efficient as possible. I have experienced no problems with build up from seed treatment or talc powder. I plant around 1,800 acres of corn each season. As with any planting it is very important to clean manifold according to conditions and John Deere recommendations.
